Venue Hire at the LJS

Due to Coronavirus health concerns, bookings are being taken for 2021 and beyond but restrictions are in place for the remainder of this year. 

Whether you're looking to hold a wedding party, children's party, anniversary, Bar or Bat mitzvah , orchestral concert or anything in between,  the LJS is the perfect venue

We also host business meetings, lectures, AGMs, training days, conferences, and even art classes. These may be one-offs or ongoing lettings. Just let us know and we will  cater to you. Our rooms for hire include:

The Sanctuary

Lined with imported Jerusalem stone, our beautiful Sanctuary is the heart of our synagogue around which the rest of the building is designed. 950 people can be seated over two levels to face the raised central podium known as the bimah

Whilst the Sanctuary is the LJS's prayer hall on Shabbat  Friday nights and Saturday mornings,  it has also been the venue for concerts, hustings, lectures and performances.

Featuring specialist lighting and sound systems, it is an ideal venue for large capacity events. 

The Montefiore Hall

The Montefiore Hall is our central ballroom which can be set up according to your requirements. Suitable for full-seated dining or buffet events, room hire includes use of our professional kosher kitchen opposite.

The Montefiore Hall can accommodate as many as 350 people when laid out ‘theatre style’; when set for full dining, it will seat around 160-170 people, while reception drinks or buffets can hold 250 people. In addition to a sound system which will connect to your phones and laptops, the hall also features a beautiful adjoining outdoor garden space, ideal for those hot summer months

The John Rayner Room

The John Rayner Room sits alongside the Montefiore Hall, and is ideal for intimate meetings. There is a kitchenette to one side, with the central table taking up to a dozen people. When used in conjuction with the Montefiore Hall, the John Rayner Room can double up as a bar, a cloakroom, or a side room for performers and guest speakers

The Israel Abrahams Library

The Israel Abrahams Library is a quiet, inviting space that can be rented out as a meeting room or teaching space for evenings and weekends. It is also used as an additional room for bigger occasions, such as weddings or bar or bat mitzvah parties

Large event venue hire includes use of our recently refurbished professional kitchen (dairy and fish only, no meat). Facilities include a conventional gas hob and electric oven, Rational combi-oven, large freezer and fridge, professional dishwasher, spacious preparation areas, and cutlery, crockery, and glasses

Caterers are welcome make use of our kitchen, and we are happy to take your pre-arranged deliveries of food and cutlery prior to your event

For smaller lettings such as meetings, we can also provide coffee, tea, water and biscuits for a small additional fee

Making your event memorable

For larger events, we can extend your booking to include areas beyond the main rooms. This could include use of the large central foyer which can be used as a reception area, and the potential to open up our grand entrance doors behind the striking LJS pillars

The Assembly Hall

The Assembly Hall is our large central room and features an integrated overhead LCD projector and traditional whiteboard, making it ideal for lectures, presentations, and classes. The room can be laid out beforehand, seating up to 30 people for a standard meeting, theatre style for up to 50 people, or the chairs removed for a buffet that could take up to 70 people 

The Mattuck Room

Adjoining the Assembly Hall, the Mattuck Room is ideal for training, workshops, formal meetings and lunches. Seating  up to 25 people in a boardroom style or 40 in theatre style, this room is fully air-conditioned and has an integrated electronic whiteboard

The Art Room
Complete with sink and smaller tables and chairs for little ones, our art room can be hired out for classes and tutorials

The Classroom
This is our smallest room and while it can accommodate a class of half a dozen students, it is also available for use as a private space, for example counselling and therapy sessions

Facilities and pricing

All room hire includes access to wi-fi where available, flip charts, and if needed our central lobby area which can be used if agreed beforehand

The LJS is fully wheelchair accessible with ramps for ease of entry into the building, a ground floor disabled toilet, and elevator. There are toilets on both floors including children's toilets on the upper floor. The Sanctuary has an induction loop system for the hard of hearing
