High Holy Days 2021/ 5782 at the LJS

Welcome to the Liberal Jewish Synagogue for the High Holy Day Services 5782. These services are the highlight of our liturgical year, providing time for us to reflect on the past year, on our relationships and what we hold to be significant in our lives.

For the second year running, our festival services will retain a very different look from years' past, but with the assistance of new technology we will be able to offer reassurance, strength and hope for the coming year. Please note that although more services have been included, many of them will be shorter than usual in order to limit screen time.

The Liberal Jewish Synagogue Yom Kippur Appeal 5782/ 2021

In the Bible ‘tzedakah’ refers to an individual act of justice or righteousness… ‘tzedek’ is the broad vision of justice, whereas ‘tzedekah’ refers to any act that manifests a commitment to this vision. In later Jewish texts, ‘tzedakah’ begins to refer more specifically to money or other material goods given to alleviate poverty. Still built into Jewish law is the understanding that giving money to the poor should be a means of restoring the justice of the world. (‘Where Justice Dwells’, Rabbi Jill Jacobs)

Our Yom Kippur Appeal this year supports three charities:
•    The Cardinal Hume Centre, located in Westminster, focuses on individuals and families on the cusp of poverty or who have been made homeless;
•    Jewish Women’s Aid provides a range of services for women and their children who are suffering directly or indirectly from domestic abuse;
•    Neve-Shalom – Wahat-al-Salaam is the JewishArab village in Israel, whose School for Peace was burnt down by arsonists in September 2020, and our contribution will help towards its rebuilding.

For more information and to make a donation, please click here. A great, short video from each charity is available to view on our LJS YouTube channel.
