The LJS Nursery School provides a nurturing and creative environment to inspire young children's curiosity, intellect and imagination.
Our highly qualified team of committed teachers and our extensive learning and enrichment programme promote the children's social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. We learn through a play based EYFS curriculum which is attuned to the individual child's pattern of development.
We warmly welcome children of all faiths and enjoy celebrating the Jewish holidays and other multicultural festivals, in a fun and interactive way. Parents are invited to celebrations of all the festivals and to a weekly Kabbalat Shabbat.

Children may enter our three-year programme at two years of age, providing they turn three during the academic year they enter the school.
During the first year, the children attend five mornings a week, from 9.15am - 12.15pm during term time. The programme is split into two six month age groups in two separate classes. We focus on gentle separation, parent partnership, social and listening skills. Parents really appreciate our high levels of care and nurturing and our open-door policy.
In the second year of the programme, we offer an extended programme until 2:30pm four afternoons a week. The afternoon activities include DANCE, SPANISH, LEARNING NEW SKILLS, HEBREW or ARTS AND CRAFTS. During this year, we increase the children's independence and confidence in preparation for the next stage. All the formal skills required are taught in an interactive and meaningful way so your child remains engaged and motivated.
Parents who wish their child to stay for a third year, have the benefit of our excellent small Reception class. In our Reception class, your child will receive a high level of attention to develop their academic skills and to prepare them individually for the school they will enter. The head teacher has strong links with the feeder schools, both in London and internationally. She supports parents through the entire application process.
CURRICULUM & TEACHING
We explore all the areas of EYFS, uniquely integrated with a Progressive Jewish and multi-cultural education. Our approach is very creative, using art, craft, music, drama, language and literature. We plan our curriculum according to the needs of each individual child. Our staffing ratios are high, all members of our staff are DBS checked and we work with the children in a caring and nurturing way, encouraging them to become independent learners. We teach listening, negotiation and self-care skills. Development of the children's social skills, confidence and self-esteem are a priority, so they can fulfill their unique potential.
We are an inclusive community and we welcome children with additional needs. We can call on our expert team if you have any concerns about your child. This includes an Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Behavioural Specialists. Please contact the head teacher to discuss your child's needs confidentially.
We operate an open door policy, where parents are always welcome in the classroom at any time. We try wherever possible to give daily feedback and are always available to help with parenting or other issues. Our developmental psychologist can meet with parents individually to teach parenting skills which can then be used at home. We are a social community and parents are regularly invited into school for special events and social opportunities. We send out a regular newsletter so you can share your child's learning.
The Nursery School enjoys the exceptional facilities of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue, which includes four bright and exciting classrooms. We have a wonderful, enclosed outside space which is fitted with a safety surface and outdoor play equipment. Our playground awning allows the children to learn and play in all weathers. We have the use of two halls in the building; one of which has a wooden dance floor.
