The LJS Nursery School provides a nurturing and creative atmosphere to inspire young children's curiosity, intellect and imagination.

Our Progressive Jewish ethos promotes children's social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth through a play-based curriculum attuned to the individual child's pattern of development.

We warmly welcome children of all faiths.

Summer Term ends 9th July 2010.

LOCATION The nursery school enjoys the wonderful facilites of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue, which include four classrooms, one leading directly onto our enclosed outside space, which is fitted with a safety surface and outdoor play equipment. The children work and play in both spaces. The hall, library and other classroom areas are also used for enrichment activities.

GENERAL INFORMATION Children may enter our three-year programme at two and a half. During the first year the children attend five mornings a week, from 9.15am - 12.15pm during term time. In the second year of the programme, we offer an extended day twice a week. The reception group (third year of the programme) stay until 2.30pm and have an afternoon enrichment programme, which includes Music and Spanish. Parents are invited to celebrations of all the festivals and to a weekly Kabbalat Shabbat. There are reduced fees for members of the synagogue. We are Ofsted registered and have a very good inspection report.

CURRICULUM & TEACHING We explore all areas of the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum for Early Years, uniquely integrated with a Progressive Jewish education. Our approach is very creative, using art, craft, music, drama, language and literature. We plan our curriculum according to the needs of each individual child. Our staffing ratios are high, all members of our staff are CRB checked and we work with the children in a caring and nurturing way, encouraging them to become independent learners. We teach listening, negotiation and self-care skills.

PARENT/SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP We operate an open door policy, where parents are always welcome in the classroom at any time. We try wherever possible to give daily feedback to parents, and are always available to help with parenting or other issues.

Development of the children's social skills, confidence and self-esteem are a priority, so they can fulfil their unique potential.
